The President hit back hard at the Dems Thursday at a Republican fundraiser in Birmingham, Alabama.
"Five years after 9/11, the worst attack on the American homeland in our history, Democrats offer nothing but criticism and obstruction and endless second-guessing. The party of FDR and the party of Harry Truman has become the party of cut and run."
Read the AP story out it here.
Bush's attacks will be hard to defend against because the President spoke the truth.
The Dems will lose the election because they are using an old playbook. They still think that fueling anti-war sentiment ala Vietnam will be a winner. I don't think so. The 9/11 attacks on American soil are too fresh in people's minds.
Today, the enemy is at hand while in the 60's the enemy was thousands of miles away. Polls show that even if people don't like George Bush or the Republicans, they still believe that they will protect them better than the Dems.

MSM and Dems Spin The National Intelligence Estimate
Dems are trying to get things whipped up again about the recent leaks of the National Intelligence Estimate. Their "doom and gloom" moaning will only alienate more voters.
The truth? Spook86 from In From the Cold tells it best. Read his post titled "More of What You Won't Read in the NYT" here.
My favorite quote from the National Intelligence Estimate:
"Should jihadists leaving Iraq perceive themselves to have failed, we judge that fewer will carry on the fight."
I did a Google search on this quote and found that the MSM, for the most part, stays away from this quote in their Bush bashing. What a surprise.

Clinton Out of Control on Fox News Sunday?
I watched the now infamous Clinton interview on "Fox News Sunday" yesterday. Chris Wallace kept his cool and Bill Clinton appeared to lose control. I don't think so.
Undoubtedly Clinton knew that Wallace would ask a question as to why he didn't do more to get Osama bin Laden. When the question was asked, Clinton took off in a rage of righteous indignation that I believe was coldly calculated.
Clinton's main defense was: I tried hard to get Bin Laden and "they" did nothing - and besides my enemies are out to get me. (Sound familiar?)
Clinton poked his finger at Chris Wallace as he railed on. At one point he accused Wallace of a "conservative hit job".
Read about it here in an AP article titled "Clinton, Fox Anchor Battle in Interview".
My opinion? The interview was interesting, but it probably was more about Bill Clinton trying to protect his place in history, than getting Dems elected.
Of course, Dems, fearful of the latest turn in the polls, will try to spin the interview to their advantage. However, I doubt many prospective voters will be moved - especially by more of the same old negative rhetoric.

Clinton Explodes on Fox News Sunday
Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace is a "must watch" this Sunday
In a short clip of the interview shown on Fox News, red faced Bill Clinton lashed out at Wallace about a question as to why he (Clinton) failed to capture Osama bin Laden.
Said Bill: "But at least I tried. That's the difference in me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now...They had eight months to try, they did not try. I tried. So I tried and failed."
Wallace said on Fox News that the former president went on and on. The full interview should be a classic.
Read the Reuters story about it here.
So much for Bill Clinton the "diplomat".

George Bush, The Pope and Crazy U.S. Politics
It's up for grabs as to who is the most evil person in the world today - George Bush or the Pope.
See my previous posts on this here and here.
However, the recent attacks on George Bush and America at the U.N. by Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela President Hugo Chavez seem to have taken some heat off the Pope.
The rants by Ahmadinejad and Chavez only have to help the Republican chances for holding Congress in the upcoming elections.
In one unlikely turn of events, top Dems seem to have smelled the roses on the effect of the Chavez rants.
Charlie Rangel (D-NY) rushed to the defense of the President and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called Chavez a "thug".
Read about this here and here. Politics sometimes makes strange bedfellows.
Update - Michelle Malkin reports on a move to boycott oil company Citgo, which is owned and run by the Venezuelan government. Read about it here.

What Do Hugo Chavez and Nikita Khrushchev Have in Common?
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called President Bush "the devil" in a speech before the U.N. today. Later in the speech, he said:
"The United States empire is on its way down and it will be finished in the near future, inshallah (If Allah wills it)."
Read about it here on FoxNews.com.
Chavez's comments reminded me of what Nikita Khrushchev, then First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, said at the same U.N. in 1960:
"We will bury you."
Read about in here on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
You know the rest of the story. Khrushchev eventually was removed from office by members of his own Communist Party. The Soviet Union no longer exists.
There is a lesson there.
God Bless America!

Support for Bush and Republicans Surges
The latest USA Today/Gallup poll was good news for Republicans. Bush's approval rating jumped to 44% from 39% earlier in the month.
In addition, likely voters split 48% to 48% when asked about their party preference for congressional candidates.
Read about the poll here on MarketWatch.com.
It looks more and more like the Republicans will hold Congress.

Pope Benedict Under Fire for Comments on Islam
Pope Benedict is under fire from Muslims throughout the world for recent comments he made about a book on Islam. Read the article from MyWay.com titled "The Turkish Lawmaker Compares Pope to Hitler" here.
Pope Benedict:
"The emperor (Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos) comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war...He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam:
"What he (the Pope) has done is that he has quoted very offensive remarks by some emperor hundreds of years ago...It is not helpful (because) we have been trying to bridge the gap, calling for dialogue and understanding between religions."
Aslam added that Muslims have a history of tolerance. She noted that when Spain drove out the Jewish population in 1492 AD they were welcomed by Muslim nations.
What Aslam left out was that in the same year (1492 AD) Ferdinand and Isabella re-conquered Spain from the Muslims who had invaded and conquered Spain in 711 AD. Read about it here. (Paul Halsall, "Medieval Sourcebook: Ibn Abd-el-Hakem: The Islamic Conquest of Spain", on Fordham.edu.)
Furthermore, Aslam left out the fate of non-Muslims (including Jews and Christians) during Muslim rule of Spain from 711 AD to 1492 AD. During most of Muslim rule, non-Muslims were allowed to worship, but were severely limited.
According to Warren H. Carroll, Ph.D., among other limitations:
"...from the time of Muhammad to the early twentieth century, the conversion of any person from Islam to Christianity was absolutely forbidden and punished by death. (In many recorded instances this punishment was relentlessly carried out.) Every Muslim and all his descendants were regarded as legally bound forever to Islam."
Read Dr. Carroll's paper here titled "What Was the Standard Policy of Muslim States in Spain toward Christians?"
The article further expands on the full extent of religious and other limitations on non-Muslims.
Meanwhile, Pope Benedict has clarified his comments. Read the BBC News story titled "Pope 'meant no offence' to Islam" here.
Michelle Malkin has more on this. Read her post titled "I support the Pope" here.
Update (9-17-2006) - Michelle Malkin has posted the Pope's email address on her web site if you want to send an email of support. benedictxvi@vatican.va. Read her post here.
Also, Powerline weighs in today with their post titled Stop Apologizing, Already.

Rosie on Christianity
Rosie O'Donnell on ABC's "The View":
"Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have a separation of church and state. We're a democracy here."
Read about this here.
Other libs have made similar stupid comments. Most libs I've talked to about this define "radical Christianity" as any church that believes that Jesus is the only way to salvation (as Jesus said) and that the Bible is the inspired word of God. How radical. Sounds like traditional Christianity to me.

Air America in Trouble?
The "air" may be leaking from Air America, the liberal Dem radio network . Rumors of bankruptcy abound. Michelle Malkin is all over this story. Read her post about it here.

Dems Bash Bush for 9-11 Speech
You would think that the Dems for one day could show some respect for the President:
Nancy Pelosi, Dem House Leader, who may become Speaker of the House if the Dems take the house in the next election:
"The American people deserved an opportunity to grieve and come together as a nation last night. Instead President Bush gave them partisan and inaccurate rhetoric."
House Majority Leader John Boehner (R) Ohio:
"I listen to my Democratic friends and I wonder if they're more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people."
Boehner was on target. Read the full Reuters story about this here.

Dems Cry About 9-11 Mini-Series - ABC Caves
Cry baby Dems are unhappy about the ABC mini-series about 9-11, because , as they say, Clinton and his administration look bad. ABC is caving in to the outcry and making changes.
Outrageous.
Were changes made in Michael Moore's movie about Bush after complaints by Republicans, or changes made in the movie "Nixon" after complaints about its accuracy?
Read about it here.

Bush Gives Great Speech
The President laid it on the line last night. His discloser of many aspects of his war on terror will give the Dems plenty to chew on.
They may do this at their own peril. American voters want to hear about action, not complaints.
