In a recent interview, embattled Senate candidate U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) said separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told".
Going further, she said separation of church and state is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers." Then she added: "If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin."
Read the full AP story via USA Today titled "Rep. Harris' comments on religion draw criticism in Florida" here.
Ouch! Looks like the truth hurts. I won't go into why Harris is right in this post, but I refer you to a post I made on the separation of church and state titled "Jesus: Off The Wall?". Read it here.

Dems Bash Wal-Mart
The Dems are on the attack - this time is against Wal-Mart.
Says Senator Joe Biden of Delaware:
"My problem with Wal-Mart is that I don't see any indication that they care about the fate of middle-class people...They talk about paying them $10 an hour. That's true. How can you live a middle-class life on that?"
Read the story about it titled "Top Democrats line up to take aim at Wal-Mart" here.
My observation? As the old saying goes: The Dems are "woofing in the wind".
Why? While unions will applaud the attacks because they want to unionize Wal-Mart, millions of Wal-Mart employees and shoppers will not be happy with the politically motivated attacks. They most probably will punish Dem candidates.
This is not a net gain for the Dems because unions will support Dem candidates in any event. Republicans will gain some support from people who traditionally don't vote Republican. i.e. lower to middle class people.
It continues to amaze me how Dems seem to be finding ways to self-destruct.

Casey's Lead over Santorum in Pennsylvania Shrinks
According to a recent Quinnipiac poll, the Pennsylvania senatorial race has tightened between Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum and Dem State Treasurer Robert Casey Jr.
Casey's lead is now 48 - 42%. Read about the poll here.

Good News for Bush, Republicans
In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll the Dem lead for Congress dropped to 47%-45%. Earlier this year the lead was 16 points. Bush's approval rating jumped to 42% which is up 5 points from earlier in August. Read about it here.
Some analysts say that the bump in ratings for Bush and the Republicans is because of the foiled terrorist plot to blow up airliners headed for the USA.
This may be partly true, but I think the answer is deeper than that. Americans were reminded again that the terrorist threat is real by the bomb plot and they know who will protect them best.
Some independents may see George Bush as a cowboy and rough around the edges, but they don't want to be protected by a party that dumped a good man like Sen. Joe Lieberman and has been hijacked by the likes of Howard Dean, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, John Murtha, Cindy Sheehan and Michael Moore.
Republicans are seen as the party strong on national defense and the Dems are seen as weak.
As the congressional elections draw nearer, I believe the polls will show even more Republican gains that will result in their continued control of the House and Senate.
Read an excellent article by Tony Phyrillas about this in The Mercury titled "Howard Dean and Dems still don't get it" here. Phyrillas really hits the nail on the head about how Dems are missing the boat again in their bid to regain political power.

Bush Will Not Support The Republican Opposing Lieberman

Tony Snow, Presidential Press Secretary (on the right) : "We are not making any endorsement in Connecticut. The Republican party of Connecticut has suggested that we not make an endorsement in that race and so we're not." Read the story about that here.
A Republican President not endorsing a Republican candidate rarely happens. In this case, George Bush put the welfare of the country above partisan politics. Sen. Joe Lieberman understands the terrorist threat and supports the President's policies on national defense.

That is why I am a supporter of George Bush.
It is sad that a good man like Joe Lieberman did not get the Dem nod in the primary. He will be running in the general election as an independent.
It seems clear that the Dem party has been hijacked by the radical left. I shudder when I think that Nancy Pelosi may end up as Speaker of the House - third in line to be President.

Dean To Lieberman: Drop Out
Howard "the screamer" Dean said on NBC's Meet The Press that U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) should drop out of the November election as an independent candidate because he was defeated in the primary. Read the full story here.
"I know how hard this is for Joe, and he is a good person, but the truth is I lost one of these races and I got behind my party's nominee and I think that is what you have to do if you want to help this country."
I have a better idea to help the country. Howard, why don't you step down as chairman of the Democratic National Committee?

Multiple Cell Phone Purchases Suspicious
The headlines tell it all. Coincidence? I think not.
Men Found With 1,000 Cell Phones Investigated
Clerk At Caro Wal-Mart Store Suspicious Of Purchase
Caro, MI The federal authorities and police are investigating.
Local Links to Terrorist Arrests
Grafton, OH Hashem Sayed was stopped by police for a routine traffic stop. Patrolman Daniel Laymon said: "There were multiple cell phones, roughly 150 to 200 cell phones from multiple retailers."
Terrorists have many uses for cell phones. Marietta arrests have officials speculating
Marietta, OH , Osama Abulhassan and Ali Houssaiky were also stopped for a traffic violation. According to news reports, police found 12 cell phones, nearly $11,000, instructions on how to get computer passenger and baggage information as well as flight manifests. Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted that they had purchased more than 600 cell phones.
No doubt liberal Dems and the ACLU will howl that the rights of these suspects were violated.
UPDATE (6:25 PM) - Read a post by Michelle Malkin on the arrest of Osama Abulhassan and Ali Houssaiky here.

Presbyterian (PCUSA) Publisher Publishes 9/11 Conspiracy Book
This month Westminster John Knox Press, which is a division of the denominational publisher for the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), is publishing a book titled "Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11: A Call to Reflection and Action" by David Ray Griffin.
The thesis of Mr. Griffin's book is that the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were planned by the Bush administration.
Says Earl Tilford, a professor of history at Grove City College, who specializes in the military and war:
"It does not surprise me that the PC(USA) press would publish his work...They are very anti-Israeli and very much inclined to anything that speaks ill of the administration."
Read the story about this titled "Official Presbyterian Publisher Issues 9/11 Conspiracy Book" at ChristianityToday.com here.
It doesn't surprise me either. This is another example of the extreme liberal views that are becoming more common in the PCUSA.
That is why my wife and I ran, not walked, away from the PCUSA to the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a denomination that is still solidly grounded in Calvinism and the Bible.

Lebanese PM Sets The Record Straight
The Lebanese PM first reported at a meeting of the Arab League foreign ministers in Beirut:
"An hour ago, there was a horrific massacre in the village of Houla in which more than 40 martyrs were victims of deliberate bombing...If these horrific actions are not state terrorism, then what is state terrorism?"
Later he lowered the count to one killed. Read the AP story here.
The PM has to be credited for setting the record straight. However, this makes one wonder how many of the other reports about the war in Lebanon are in error.
In addition, it has already come out that some Lebanon photos have been doctored to make Israeli attacks seem worse than they are. Read the story titled "Reuters Says freelance Manipulated Lebanon Photos" here.
UPDATE 7:05 PM- Michelle Malkin is reporting much more on photo doctoring. Read her post here.

Bush, Faith and Politics
Karen Armstrong, Monday July 31, 2006, in The Guardian foolishly attempted to link George Bush's Christian beliefs and his faith with the many problems at home and overseas. Read her article titled "Bush's fondness for fundamentalism is courting disaster at home and abroad" here.
Armstrong sees a major part of the problem as a struggle between faith and science. She points to Thomas H Huxley, an advocate for the Origin of Species who concluded :
"One or the other (faith or science) would have to succumb after a struggle of unknown duration."
As to the Bible believing Christians wanting Intelligent Design taught in schools, Armstrong exclaims, like Huxley:
"The issue splits the nation down the middle: fundamentalists want to win a battle for God; liberals and secularists are fighting for truth and rationality."
(As Jesus said: "What is truth?")
Armstrong sees George Bush's Christian views "courting disaster" in the world.
She attacks the President for banning federal funding of stem cell research:
Bush: "This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others... It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect."
Armstrong even charges the President is ignoring civilian deaths in Lebanon because of his belief in the "end times" and Bible eschatology. She argues that fundamentalist Christians, like Bush believe: "Christ cannot return, however, unless, in fulfillment of biblical prophecy, the Jews are in possession of the Holy Land. (Does Armstrong know that Jesus said that no one knows the time when He will return?)
Her ramblings on George Bush's faith go on and on to even include his failure to sign the Kyoto treaty. Armstrong argues: why would Bush care about global warming "If the world is about to end?" (How about if Bush signs it, the US economy suffers? How about, many scientists don't believe in global warming?)
Liberals and secularists, like Armstrong, have a worldview that lacks faith. So sad - and irrational. Isn't it irrational to believe that our world could come into existence and be so beautiful through mere chance? Their lack of knowledge of the Bible also feeds their irrationality.
I know. After accepting Christ I saw things very differently. Call me a fundamental Christian if you wish, but I call myself a Christian who believes the Bible and Jesus.
The truth is that George Bush, his faith or his politics will never be understood by the secularists until they stop being secularists. I will pray for Ms. Armstrong and other secularists.
