Now we have a Spanish version of our National Anthem and a call to allow crossing the border as the only qualification for citizenship. Read an AP story about the National Anthem here.
At first I was angered by all this. Why can't we all get along and speak (and sing) English? English was good enough for our Founding Fathers; why not us Americans today?
Then I started thinking about it. Wow, did my Polish and Welsh ancestors get a raw deal. They had to go through a complicated immigration procedure, take a difficult test and then they were even expected to speak and read English and have a job. To top this all off, there was no Polish or Welsh version of the National Anthem.
I say, this is the time to correct some of this injustice. Let's be fair to all. We need a federal law to require that the National Anthem be translated and recorded in the language of the country of origin of all Americans. To do this right, let's create a new agency to oversee this project. Hmmm, let's call it the FAOOB. (Federal Anthem of Origin Bureau). Ted Kennedy or some other liberal Dem would make good head of this new agency.
Of course, this would not correct all of the injustice, but it would be a start. The only drawback I can see would be the extra time it would take to sing the various versions of the National Anthem at football or baseball games.

Tony Snow as Press Secretary - Watch Out David Gregory
It looks more and more like Tony Snow, Fox News commentator, will be the President's next Press Secretary.
Time Magazine in it's April 23, 2006 article titled Can The New Sheriff Tame The West Wing? Reported:
"His (Josh Bolton) first move, working with counselor Dan Bartlett, was to offer the press secretary job to Tony Snow of Fox News radio and television."
So far, there has been no announcement about this from the White House or Tony Snow.
I have mixed emotions about this. I am a fan of Tony and would miss his commentaries on Fox News, but I know he would help Bush, and the Republicans, regain popular support. Tony would be what many Bush supporters want - a spokesman who will "push back" and make the case for the President.
An announcement could come tomorrow.

The Generals Against Rumsfeld and the Dem Battle Plan
Several retired General have come out of the woodwork to criticize Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and call for his resignation. The MSM is all over the story. Read the AFP story about it here. Dems, keeping a straight face, have echoed the calls for Rumsfeld to step down.
I smell a rat.
Remember the six-page strategy memo cooked up by Dem Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's office titled "Real Security" reported March 18, 2006 by the Washington Times? The memo called for staged events at military bases, weapons factories, National Guard units, fire stations and veterans posts.
From the Dem plan: "Ensure that you have the proper U.S. and state flags at the event, and consider finding someone to sing the national anthem and lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the event".
Read the full Washington Times story about it here.
Could whining Generals just be more props for "the Dem plan"? Isn't it interesting that all of them "came out" now and all at the same time?
I wonder if any of the Generals will be running for office soon as Dems? I wonder how many will have book deals?
Color me skeptical.

How The MSM Twists The Truth
If you have any doubt that the MSM is trying to bring down the President, read the following post in Powerline about the media's reporting of the "truth" about the mobile biological weapons labs found in Iraq.
John of Powerline concludes:
"We are living through an extraordinary era, in which our principal news media have scarcely any regard for truth, and have dedicated themselves monomaniacally to destroying the President of the United States and his administration."

Students Rule in France
French President Jacques Chirac waved the white flag and gave in to student and union protests over a reasonable youth labor law change. Even that capitulation wasn't enough because the protests still go on. Read the full AP story here.
Children know that if they stamp their feet and scream enough, weak parents will give in and give them what they want.
Says Bruno Julliard, head of the UNEF student association:
"We want to see how we can take advantage of this power struggle that is now in our favor to garner new victories."
Jacques Chirac demonstrated how weak he is and it looks like he will become even weaker.

Go to Church and Live Longer
A study reported in the "Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine" found that churchgoers could expect an extra 1.8-3.1 years of life. Read about this here.
As to why, study leader Daniel Hall, a resident in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center says:
"There is something about being knit into the type of community that religious communities embody that has a way of mediating a positive health effect."
Hall, who is also an Episcopal priest, noted other possible explanations for longer life as a decrease in the level of stress because of religious involvement and finding a meaning in life.
Interesting. I wonder if Rev. Hall considered that God might have something to do with it through answered prayer?
