I watched the White House press briefing Scott McClellan gave on the recent plane incident at the White House. The liberal reporters were frantically asking questions that obviously were designed to "trap" McClellan into saying something that could be used in a negative way about the incident.
Unable to find anything substantial amiss in the procedures used to evacuate the White House or the Capitol, now the press has turned to what "didn't" happen while President Bush was enjoying a bike ride during the "crisis": The Secret Service didn't tell George Bush about the happenings until after he finished his ride.
This is the lead in the Reuters story titled White House Defends Not Telling Bush of Scare.
"The White House on Thursday defended the decision not to tell President Bush until he finished a bicycle ride about the plane scare that caused fighter jets to scramble over Washington and forced the evacuation of the White House and Congress." Read the full story here.
There is no reason why the White House should have to "defend" itself about the Secret Service decision. It is just arrogance on the part of the press that would cause them to question when the President was notified. George Bush was satisfied and that is all that should count. There is no story.
Leon Panetta, a Chief of Staff to former President Clinton, even weighed in with a ridiculous observation reported in a story by the AP.
"I don't think there is a legitimate excuse for not telling the president of the United States about that kind of potential emergency," he said. "It was serious that it happened and it could have been even more serious. ... That is something that just simply cannot happen again."
Liberals and Democrats just hurt themselves and look silly when they continue to complain and whine about anything that involves Republicans or the President.

Wake up America - Support Our American Carmakers!
It's very disturbing news that General Motors and Ford, the only two remaining major American owned auto companies, are having financial troubles.
A Detroit News story reports that: "The debt of General Motors and Ford Motor Co. was lowered to "junk status" Thursday as one of the nation's top credit rating agencies said the management strategies at both firms are insufficient to counter mounting challenges and surging rivals." Read the full story here.
One factor in the American automaker's woes is that Americans more and more are choosing vehicles made by foreign automakers - especially Japanese manufacturers.
Another Detroit News story titled Big 3 market share dips to all-time low spells out the decline of US automakers at the expense of Asian automakers.
It puzzles and upsets me that many American buyers are not supporting American automakers. My wife and I have decided to only buy cars made by American companies - GM to be exact. It only makes sense. Why? What are the implications?
First and most obvious is that in the event of war, we need to have American manufacturing capability. What would have happened in World War Two if GM and Ford hadn't existed? Do you think we could have bought our military tanks, trucks, jeeps and other military vehicles from Japan or Germany? (For you high school seniors - Germany and Japan were our enemies in World War Two).
Second, thousands of Americans work for GM and Ford and millions own their stock and bonds. Why would we not want to help American families and investors? How many American widows hold GM and Ford bonds and depend on the income from these investments for their survival? How many families of former GM and Ford workers are struggling today because the breadwinner was laid off because of slumping cars sales?
Wake up America. Support our American carmakers before they are gone and it's too late.
(For the sake of full disclosure, I own a small amount of GM stock.)

Robertson: Right or Left?
On one hand, Pat Robertson is vilified by the far left for trying to make the US a theocracy. See the AP story titled Is the U.S. a theocracy? Some groups say that's what the far right is aiming for.
On the other hand, some in the religious right have criticized Robertson because of his response to a question by George Stephanopoulos on ABC News' This Week concerning a possible Rudy Giuliani candidacy for president in 2008.
Pat gave his opinion about whether or not many in the GOP would leave the party if someone like former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who is pro-choice and pro gay rights, were nominated.
Robertson said: "I don't think so. Rudy is a very good friend of mine, and he did a super job running the city of New York. And I think he'd make a good president. I like him a lot. Although he doesn't share all of my particular points of view on social issues, he's a very dedicated Catholic. And he's a great guy." Read the full Agape Press story here.
It seems Rev. Robertson can't please either side of the political spectrum.

My Way or The Highway
This one is too good. My kind of church.
According to the AP, the pastor of the East Waynesville Baptist Church led an effort to throw out nine members who didn't support President Bush.

The Captain on Pat Robertson
Captain's Quarters took on Pat Robertson in a recent post because of comments Pat made in a recent interview with George Stephanopoulos. While I am a regular reader of Captain's Quarters and usually agree with the views expressed there, I disagree with the Captain's take on this issue which follows:
Proving that not all hyperbolic idiots occupy the left side of the political spectrum, Pat Robertson returned political stupidity to a fair and balanced position by proclaiming American federal justices as a greater danger to the US than the murderous terrorists who killed over 3,000 people on 9/11:
"Over 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings," Robertson said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos." ...
Confronted by Stephanopoulos on his claims that an out-of-control liberal judiciary is the worst threat America has faced in 400 years - worse than Nazi Germany, Japan and the Civil War - Robertson didn't back down.
"Yes, I really believe that," he said. "I think they are destroying the fabric that holds our nation together."
I don't care what side Robertson supports -- describing federal justices as worse than Nazis amounts to the same kind of irresponsible rhetoric as proclaiming Christianity to be the darkest threat in this nation's history. Neither comments help resolve the debate, and neither can come close to rational thought.
This was my response to the Captain's post:
Captain, I am a regular reader and usually I agree with you. In this case, I disagree. Pat Robertson is no dummy. He is a Yale law school graduate and a graduate of a seminary. He knew that he was being set up by Stephanopoulos, yet he didn't answer as a politician, he spoke truth. The reality is that "we are our own worst enemies". Pat is just saying that without a Godly country, we will fall.
Enough said.

Leave Jennifer Wilbanks Alone
Finally there is a good story. Jennifer Wilbanks is safe. That should be cause for rejoicing and I am sure it is for her family, friends and her fiancée. Before that good news, we had heard and had seen one story after another of bad news about rapes, murders and kidnappings.
Jennifer got cold feet about her impending wedding. Period. That is the story. Some in the media, the public and in law enforcement are calling for her punishment. I just can't understand why they won't show mercy and give thanks.
There are many very bad people in the world doing very bad things. Let's focus on them and let Jennifer and her family and those that love her handle this.
As I am writing this, Greta Van Susteren on the Fox News Channel is interviewing Danny Porter who is District Attorney in Jennifer’s county. He apparently still hasn't made up his mind whether or not to press charges and take the case to the Grand Jury.
I pray that forgiveness will overcome vengeance and Jennifer will be allowed to go on with her life and if she and her fiancée agree, their married life.

Washington Governor's Race Not Over
In a previous post I told about serious questions about the vote count in the Washington Governor's race which cast doubt on the election of Democrat Christine Gregoire over Republican Dino Rossi.
Even though Gregoire was sworn in as Governor, a court battle ensued.
Monday, Rossi won round one in the legal challenge of the election of Gregoire when a judge ruled that the Republican can use a form of statistical analysis to attempt to prove illegal votes altered the very close race after several recounts.
The race was decided by only 129 votes in the final hand recount of close to 3 million ballots after Rossi won the first counts.

Microsoft Out of MSNBC?
The Raw Story and Drudge are reporting that Microsoft is pulling out of MSNBC. MSNBC runs in third place behind the Fox News Channel and CNN in the ratings war. Microsoft obviously smelled the roses, or should I say smelled the lack of a good profit. According to The Raw Story: "MSNBC is said to roughly break even; it has never been terribly profitable."
Read the full story on The Raw Story here.
MSNBC and Fox News Channel started about the same time. Most liberals and Dems claim Fox News tilts far to the right. I switched to Fox News because they usually report both sides of a story, which was like a breath of fresh air.
