Even though the results have been certified in the Washington Governor's Race, there are what seem to be serious questions about the vote count in King County.
Check out this interesting post by Stefan Sharkansky in Sound Politics. It seems Mr. Sharkansky is questioning why 3,539 more ballots were cast than the number of people who voted in the election. Interesting.

Bush Bashing Begins
Before all the water has subsided in Southeast Asia, the critics are taking aim at the president. Now they complain that Bush is organizing a coalition to coordinate relief efforts that will bypass the UN. Well duh, why not? The Oil-For-Food program is a perfect example of why we should not funnel money to the UN - or should I say into the pockets of people associated with the UN.

The UN - There They Go Again
It's becoming a familiar mantra with the UN. Blame the USA first. The bodies from the horrible disaster in Southeast Asia haven't even been counted and the carping has started.
At a press conference Jan Egeland, the U.N. humanitarian aid chief, whined:
"We were more generous when we were less rich, many of the rich countries...And it is beyond me, why are we so stingy, really ... Even Christmas time should remind many Western countries at least how rich we have become."
Taking offense, U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell shot back in a Sunday morning TV interview:
"The United States has given more aid in the last four years than any other nation or combination of nations in the world".
Enough said.
Just a note - Egeland's slam included a reference to Christmas. He should have said "Even Holiday time...". Where is the outrage from the ACLU?

Christian Students Strike Back
I remember before my freshman year at college, I was given an assignment to read the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. We were to discuss the book during freshman week as a part of our orientation.
Following is a description of the book from Amazon.com:
"This classic novel of self-discovery has inspired generations of seekers. With parallels to the enlightenment of the Buddha, Hesse's Siddhartha is the story of a young Brahmn's quest for the ultimate reality."
I was a naive kid from a small town in Pennsylvania and this short book shaped my spiritual thinking for many years. I experienced confusion and inner turmoil based on the belief that ultimate truth comes from within - not from God.
What if I had refused to participate in this exercise? I knew of no one who had refused. Or how about if I had struck back and filed suit against the school for setting me on a spiritual course that was destructive to my soul? I never dreamed I could stand up to what the school spoon fed me.
But today there is a growing movement of Christian students that refuse to put their beliefs on the shelf when they go to college.
One recent example was cited in an AP article about the University of North Carolina where three incoming freshmen sued because of a reading assignment they said was against their Christian beliefs.
Other examples in the article seemed to suggest that there is a growing trend of Christian students fighting back.
Students actions, like the Vietnam war protests, often are signals of greater movements in society as a whole. God willing, there could be a major revival coming to America.

Dems in Washington Win Governor's Race by 10 Votes
If at first you don't win, recount, recount, recount, recount until it comes out your way. It's kind of like the child who is told "no" by her parent who keeps on nagging until the parent gives in. It is interesting that when there is a recount, the "lost" votes almost always are "found" in democrat strongholds. For example, democrat King County, the largest county in Washington state, mysteriously "found" more than 700 "lost" ballots that had not been counted in the Nov. 2 election. I guess all is fair in love and politics - if you are a democrat.

Walmart KOs Target
Wal-Mart is stepping up to help replace the loss of contributions that the Salvation Army is suffering by Target's decision to ban the bell ringers from in front of their stores. Wal-Mart recently announced that it will match the proceeds of all Salvation Army red kettles this Christmas season. National Commander of the Salvation Army W. Todd Bassett expressed his feelings about Walmart's move this way. "At a time when it was needed most, Wal-Mart has extended its hand to support the 104-year-old tradition that benefits many thousands of people in communities throughout the United States. Every dollar put into our Red Kettles is used locally, and Wal-Mart's generosity by matching those dollars will extend our local services to many more needy individuals requiring our assistance far beyond the holiday season." Wal-Mart is right on target.

Where Have Our Roots Gone?
My wife and I got some insight today into the thinking of liberals about the recent election from a couple we know.
Over coffee, they explained that they were terrified that the Republicans are going to establish a theocracy in America. They blamed the push for this on "neo-conservative Christians" within the party. When I asked for a definition of a neo-conservative, I was shocked to find out that I was one. (My wife being more of a realist was not shocked that they felt that way.)
A neo-conservative Christian, according to our friends, is one who believes that the Bible is true and that there is only one way to heaven - Jesus. We joyfully pleaded guilty. To make matters worse (or better, depending on your view) - and equally frightening to our friends was that we are Republicans. Our friends were afraid of such "narrow" thinking.
We thought we were just average God fearing Americans who were members of the party of Lincoln - yet it seems that "we" were the ones that were feared.
After nearly four hours of a heated discussion over various related issues, neither side moved an inch in their thinking. Thankfully, we parted friends wanting to engage again for further discussion.
Later, during dinner, I asked my wife if there was any hope that such liberal thinking would change. "Not a chance" she lamented.
I really don't believe that their opinion is uncommon among liberals. We are the enemy and they fear us. How sad. The culture shift in America over the past twenty years has been dramatic. Many older people I know have missed it. They still believe in the old values and are unaware of how they are seen by the so-called progressives (liberals). I tried to explain this to my 83 year old aunt once and she looked puzzled. Her view of the world is now shaped by what she sees on the only TV channel she now watches - The Animal Planet.
My wife and I recently attended a Gaither Homecoming Christmas concert which was very moving. As we walked out after the show, I looked around and didn't see anyone without gray hair. No children - no young people. None. I told several younger people (under 60) about the concert the next day and got mostly blank stares. (If you are staring blankly now, you may be young or a liberal.)
Our country's roots are withering right under our noses.

Christmas Carols for the ACLU
Members of the organization Public Advocate of the United States sang Christmas carols in front of the Washington, DC office of the American Civil Liberties Union. Public Advocate President Eugene Delgaudio said at the event: "Public Advocate hopes that the spirit of the Christmas season will fill the members and employees of the ACLU and that they will embrace the morals and principles of groups like the Boy Scouts and renounce their efforts to destroy traditional values in America." We can only hope.

Jesus - a Part of History
Most Americans (93 percent) believe that Jesus was an historical figure according to a Newsweek poll that was just released. Also, according to their most recent cover story, "82 percent believe Jesus Christ was God or the Son of God".
These findings are surprising considering that at the same time, the ACLU and other liberal groups are on the attack trying to remove Jesus and Christianity from every area of public life - including Christmas.
The good news is that the presidential election was part of a backlash against this secularization of America. While John Kerry tried to use the rhetoric of the Bible in his campaign, his position on the issues did not square with the principles of the Bible - and he lost as a result of it.
It is truly amazing that one man - and the truth He represents - could have such an impact in History. Perhaps that is why it's called "His"story. Opps, don't let the ACLU figure that one out or there will be an outcry to ban that word too. Maybe "Ourstory" instead?
